Revisioning the Americas
REVISIONING THE AMERICAS THROUGH INDIGENOUS CINEMA
REGARDS AUTOCHTONES SUR LES AMÉRIQUES
VISIONES INDÍGENAS SOBRE LAS AMERICAS
The 3rd edition of the international conference Revisioning the Americas through Indigenous Cinema were held on August 4th and 5th, 2011, in Montreal and Kahnawake, as part of the First People's festival Présence autochtone. As with the first two editions, our aim is to reach a greater understanding of the role of Indigenous film experiences and perspectives in what are, and what can become, the Americas. We simultaneously wish to build bridges between the world of Indigenous cinema, the academia, local Indigenous communities and the public.

Every year, the conference has been bringing together about 30 participants and allowing for exchanges in 3 languages thanks to simultaneous translation. The event proved to be an amazing place for meeting and conversation, generating a unique collective reflection at the image of the diversity of perspectives, experiences and issues related to Indigenous cinema. We hope this 3rd edition will allow us to pursue the collaborative work and thought process that are at the core of this event.

2011 edition with Reaghan Tarbell (documentary filmmaker), Yves Sioui Durand (filmmaker), Amalia Cordova (New York University and National Museum of the American Indian), Lorna Roth (Concordia University), Noël Habel (Canada Council for the Arts), Tracey Deer (documentary filmmaker) Chris Bose (filmmaker), Kakwiranoron Cook (documentary filmmaker) and other guests.
